Velocity Girl

Velocity Girl adalah band indie rock Amerika dibentuk pada tahun 1989 di College Park, Maryland, meskipun secara umum dikenal sebagai band, Washington DC area. Band ini merilis tiga album sebelum terpisah pada tahun 1996.


Band ini dimulai sebagai duo Kelly Riles dan gitaris / penyanyi Archie Moore (juga dari Black Tambourine) pada 1989 (dua setelah bertemu di universitas), awalnya akan di bawah nama The Gotterdemocrats, menjadi Velocity Girl dengan penambahan Brian Nelson ( mantan Big Jesus Trashcan, juga Black Tambourine), Jim Spellman (mantan High Backed Chairs), dan vokalis Bridget Salib (segera bergabung Kerusuhan). Band ini mengambil namanya dari Primal Scream pada B-side.


Sarah Shannon bergabung untuk menggantikan Salib setelah merilis debut band single "I Don't Care If You Go". Sementara banyak 1990-an musik rock menampilkan gaya vokal dan instrumental abrasif, suara Velocity Girl, terutama pasca-1993, lebih melodik dan biasanya menampilkan "" suara gitar listrik yang "clean(bersih)"(non-distorsi) dan dua bagian harmoni;.


Band menggambarkan pengaruh mereka sebagai "Perdagangan Kasar dan label kartu pos dan beberapa band Penciptaan awal" Namun, pada Single 7 Inch pertama mereka direkam pada Slumberland dan Merge, serta album pertama mereka Sub Pop, Copacetic, Velocity Girl dicatat untuk pengaruh shoegaze mereka. Velocity Girl sering tur, merilis full-length tiga rekaman pada label Sub Pop. Kelompok dibubarkan pada akhir 1996 setelah playng pertunjukan terakhir mereka "The Buzz Bakesale", di West Palm Beach, FL. Kebetulan, ini adalah saat yang sama bahwa karir Lush, band yang VVelocity Girl paling sering dibandingkan, berakhir juga. Shannon, Riles dan Spellman bersatu kembali dalam sebuah proyek singkat disebut Starry Eyes, merilis satu EP pada tahun 1998. Moore telah terbentuk cacing hati sebelum Velocity Girl berpisah, dan kemudian membentuk The Saturday People dengan Terry Banks dari Tree Fort Angst.


Sarah Shannon pergi ke rilis album self-titled di tahun 2002. Ada satu Velocity Girl reuni Pertunjukan ini dimainkan di the Black Cat di Washington, DC pada tanggal 9 Juni 2002 to benefit original vocalist Cross.


Jim Spellman sekarang memainkan gitar di Washington DC berdasarkan kekuasaan-band pop Julie Ocean.
