Hype! (1996)


Hype! (1996) adalah sebuah film dokumenter yang disutradarai oleh Doug Pray tentang popularitas rock grunge di tahun 1990-an awal hingga pertengahan Amerika Serikat. Ia menggabungkan wawancara dan cuplikan konser langka untuk menelusuri langkah-langkah grunge, dari awal subversif di ruang bawah tanah lingkungan, ledakan sebagai fenomena budaya pop. Hype! menunjukkan grunge dari sudut pandang orang dalam adegan grunge, dan upaya untuk menghilangkan beberapa mitos dari genre diumumkan oleh media hype, maka di beri judul hype!. Film ini umumnya menggambarkan faksi terakhir dengan cara menyindir, meskipun mengakui bahwa media hype membantu mendorong beberapa band jelas untuk ketenaran, meskipun sebentar. Film ini pertama ditayangkan pada Sundance Film Festival di Januari 1996. Lalu dibuka untuk khalayak umum pada tanggal 8 November tahun yang sama. Hype! meliputi wawancara dan penampilan dari band (terutama yang berorientasi dengan sumbu Sub Pop Records) seperti Tad, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Coffin Break, The Gits, Love Battery, Flop, The Melvins, Mono Men, Supersuckers, Zipgun, Seaweed, Pearl Jam, 7 Year Bitch, Hovercraft, Gas Huffer dan Fastbacks.

Seiring dengan DVD yang datang dengan Nirvana Dengan Lights Out, adalah salah satu dari beberapa film mengandung rekaman video dari pertunjukan pertama Nirvana mereka mencapai terobosan, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Sub Pop merilis soundtrack untuk film tahun 1996, CD serta versi kotak terbatas yang pada tanggal 7 berwarna "vinyl
